Office 2013 was working fine on Win-7, now won't start or allow reinstall/repair (same thing on Win8 too!)

I have 3 systems - all of which have hit the same problem within days of each other, which makes me suspect a Microsoft update problem.

In the last week (noticed in the last week), my installations of Office 2013 and Visio 2013 have stopped working.

When I try to repair, I get an error - when I try to reinstall, I get an error.

Window 7 is on 2 systems, and Windows 8.1 on another. All have the same error.

Online repair, or repair from original DVD does not work.

Deinstall (using Microsoft FixIT) does not work.

Restoring to an earlier savepoint has had no effect.

What's going on - as this seems to be a common error that is cropping up.

thanks, Ham.

    Dear User,

Please ensure that the Microsoft office clicktorun service is started

    1. Click start button
    2. (If windows XP click run else just type) type Services.msc
    3. find Microsoft Office ClickToRun Service
    4. Right Click and choose properties
    5. Change startup type to automatic
    6. click start service

And then attempt to run your office product.

    I hope this helps.

I am also having this problem. It shows up with an error saying that Office has a problem and will not come up. Then it says to try and fix it in the control panel. I am very, very upset at this...

None of the suggested ideas has helped.

My version of Office 2013 was installed from DVD, not from the cloud.

Interestingly, my other versions installed from DVD (on Win7) have also stopped working, and these systems have nothing in common - e.g. different software.

Using the FixIT tool to remove all Office 2013 software had no effect.

Booting into SafeMode on both of Win8 and Win7 still gave the "error" when installing.

    Thanks Rusty.

I have already used the FixIT tool which is supposed to remove all traces of Office 2013, so the Click To Run service is not listed in the services control panel, AND the new Office 2013 (and Visio 2013) refuses to install. The click-to-run installation finishes with an error after about 30 seconds. The prompt/dialogue windows seems to get to around 45%, then closes and the error message appears.

This was the same behaviour when I tried to 'repair' the installation before using the MS FixIT tool.

    thanks.

    Hi,

I understand it is quite disappointing when the program does not work as expected.

I need more details to assist you with the issue:

What is the exact error message you get on the screen?

Have you tried removing the Office keys from the computer?

If you have not tried, please try to manually remove the traces of Office completely from the computer. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501 (Refer to the section Remove Office manually).

Note: Ensure to read the disclaimer or take a backup of the registry before modifying it.

Once removed, restart the computer and then try to install the Office suite in clean boot mode.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Ensure to restart the computer to normal mode once the troubleshooting is completed.

Clean boot is performed to disable all start up programs and 3rd party services on the computer and check if they are conflicting with the Office program. If so, you may disable the unwanted software which conflict with the suite or update the same.

I hope the above steps help. If you have further queries let us know and I will be glad to assist you.

    Thank you.
