power point won't download from website

I have uploaded power points to my website, when I go to the website to test downloading I receive this error: "We're sorry, but power point has run into an error....will need to close.....Would you like to repair now?"  It gives button options to repair, help, or close.  Only close really works.  I'm working on a surface pro, using windows 8, Office 365, Chrome.  I've had successful downloads with a samsung 4, a linux machine with firefox, and the surface pro switching to ie.  The website is for students who use a variety of platforms. Ant suggestions?

    Russell,

Before following Mohan's suggestions, I'd try using the browser's command to save the PPT file to your local computer rather than opening it directly from the web site.

Check to see what kind of file you end up with (ie, what's the file extension) and test to see if double-clicking the saved file will open it successfully.

If not, try opening it by starting PPT and using File | Open.

Let us know what error messages you get at each step, if any, and if not, drinks are on you. ;-)

    Hello Russell,

    Welcome to Microsoft Communities.

As per your issue description, even though PowerPoint files download/open fine when accessed from other platforms like IE or Firefox, the issue seems to be with some corruption of PowerPoint 2013 (Office 365) on your computer. In order to resolve this issue let us try reinstalling Office 365 on your computer.

In order to be able to reinstall Office 365 you will have to login to your Microsoft Account with your Microsoft Account credentials and then download and install Office 365. Let us follow these steps.

Login to your Microsoft Account with your Microsoft Account Credentials and check if your Office 365 edition reflects on the My Account page. The URL for the Microsoft Account webpage is: http://office.com/myaccount. Microsoft account credentials would be your Outlook.com or Hotmail.com or Live.com email account which you have used for the Office 365 purchase registration.

If your My Account page reflects your version of Office 365 - then follow these steps to remove the current installation of Office 365 and remnants of Office from any other version.

Note: Before you uninstall Office 365 please make sure to take a backup of all your Office data: All Word, Excel, PowerPoint, documents and files. Also, in case you have been using Outlook 365 for your email, calendar, contacts and/or tasks, make sure to take a backup of the Outlook information.

    • You will have to install and run the Office 365 FIXIT tool to uninstall Office 365.
    • Download / Install and run the Office 365 FIXIT tool from the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

Once you have completed running the FIXIT follow these steps to delete the Office 15 folders.

    • From Windows Explorer please navigate to the following location: *C:\Propgram Files* or *C:\Program Files (x86)*
    • Make sure to delete the Microsoft Office 15 folder. In case you are not able to delete the folder then right-click on it and click on Rename. Rename the folder as Microsoft Office 15 old. Ignore these steps in case you are not able to find the Microsoft Office 15 folder in the above mentioned location.
    • Once you have completed running the FIXIT and deleted/renamed the Office 15 folder be sure to restart your computer.
    • Now try logging into the My Account page and reinstall Office 365.

Check if you were able to download and install Office 365 successfully. Once this is completed check if Office 365 prompts you for activation. If yes, proceed with the steps on screen and activate Office 365.

After completing the above process try downloading/accessing your PowerPoint files on your Surface Pro computer.

Please try the above steps and let us know if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.
