How exactly is Azure Stack HCI billed per core?

Hi!

I have read, that for Azure Stack HCI the price per physical core (currently $10/pCPU/mo) is calculated on a daily basis.

Is it calculated only from cores used by workload (VMs)? Or will we get billed for all present cores on nodes in the cluster which are not switched off?
If so, does that also mean, that switching the nodes off for off-peak hours does not have any impact on billing either?

Hi @luprc ,

Billing is based on a flat rate per physical processor core in an Azure Stack HCI cluster

To determine how many cores are present in a cluster, Azure Stack HCI periodically checks the number of physical cores and reports them to Azure.

I've confirmed this with the product group @luprc . It charged for all physical cores in the cluster.

Hi Andreas,

partially your answer is helpful, thank you.

But what does "periodically" mean? Is that once a day? Every hour? Every minute?
And if the reporting is "on daily basis", is it the maximal number of present pCPUs what is then reported to Azure?

Again, what I'm trying to get my head around is if I can save costs by switching hosts off for off-peak hours.
Well, I am afraid the answer will be a "no" in the end, anyway. :)
