MS Project dates not updating when tasks finish early

I have a schedule and some of the tasks are finishing earlier than expected but the final end date is not pulling in to show finishing early. If the opposite happens, it doesn't push out either.

    You can have a check to see if you are using manually scheduled tasks. If you are using automatically scheduled tasks, please go to file->Options, choose Schedule and go to Calculation to see if 'Calculate project after each edit' is on.

    I checked all that looking at previous responses to other people's questions. All that is set correctly.
