My images out of no where started asking for activation of Windows but it only lasts a few minutes and disappears. If I go into settings it says its activated. When I run the image down to the hosts some of them will still say that they need activation when the user signs in some of them wont. Anyone know what is causing this?

Hey, VMs on Azure use a Azure delivered KMS-like service to activate virtual machines. Are you sure there are no NSG's or other firewalls blocking this traffic?

I talked to my network security guy about this and he said this should already be in place. Having said that he added some more IPs from Microsoft to allow more traffic to go through.

Do you know the specific IPs and ports that should be allowed for this?

Is there a way to test the connection?

    Hi,

Do you have tunnelling or some sort of network rules that filters the traffic? Check this article for troubleshooting troubleshoot-activation-problems

I logged into one of my parent images and saw the activation prompt again although like I mentioned above it promptly goes away on its own. I used the PSTools and was able to ping the KMS server and I also did the multiple activation cmd in powershell and it activated several times before I canceled it. I think its connecting fine and activating its just doing it slower than it should if that makes since? I mean thats not normal right to even see the activation prompt?
