I'm using office 365 and use Word .dotm and .docm files. Lots of macros and Visual Basic. All macros and VBA project are trusted.
I'm still running Microsoft Access 2003, which Microsoft has stated is still functional in Windows 10. We've never upgraded because Microsoft removed critical features on two occasions, stranding us.
A Visual Basic function in Access opens local Word documents based on an Access query. This no longer works and so I cannot retrieve reports based on Access queries.
I've been using these VB routines for years without this issue. A new Office or Windows update caused this. I have no idea which particular update, since both are coming in frequently
Please give me a solution or workaround. My practice is mostly report writing and so this developer oversight is paralyzing my workflow.

Please provide granular details on the exact process, start to finish\step by step of how your process works. Also, if you receive the popup the source of this file is untrusted then it is certainly untrusted.

Yes, Microsoft is doing this increasingly starting with April. Here's the documentation.
Check every involved Office file and remove the MOTW if you can.

Thanks for helping! I found the problem. I had set the document folder (that Access opens .docm's from) as trusted. My .dotm's are in a different folder, which was not trusted.
I set my template folder (not the default) as trusted and files are opening again :)
All suggested solutions are unreliable. I should have known better than to assume MS would create updates requiring reasonable workarounds. This has never been true.
The reason MS is so widely reviled is just this. It is apparently not worth their time to develop in such a manner.
The company is not widely despised because they are massive. That does not follow. It is because sentiments like "to make omelets, you have to break a few eggs" are considered acceptable.
The MS developer who proclaimed that at every chance he got is now long gone and the world is a slightly better place.
Instead of buying 100 meter yachts, invest some of your excessive proceeds into a department of reasonable workarounds. Police yourself for gods sake!
