File transfer speed in Explorer on Windows Server 2022

Hello!

There're two test servers with Windows Server 2022. In fact they are the ordinary workstations being used for testing purposes, their network adapters - integrated Realtek Gbs.

Today while copying a file from server 1 to server 2 I noticed the following:
241034-speed-copy.png

Of course the file transfer speed had been changing during the copying operation but the explorer was always ~ 2 times "faster" than the Task Manager.

I know that there may be slightly different numbers when converting bytes to bits but not to such extent: 192MBps would mean ~1,5 GBps while my network card is limited to 1GBps. I've run ~ the same test on my Windows 7 workstation and the difference was ~20% that's also a big number but not almost 100%! How come WinServer 2022 shows the speed that exceedes the adapter's capacity?

Thank you in advance,
Michael

    Hello there,

Based on my understanding all file transfer speeds show up as double in Task Manager, and that might be because it adds both write and read rates together.

The speed that is displayed in File explorer is only the transfer speed rate. You can also use some third-party tools to confirm this theory.

    Hello LimitlessTechnology-2700,

"Based on my understanding all file transfer speeds show up as double in Task Manage" - maybe you mean in Explorer as the screenshot above display the speed in Task Manager only 889 Mbps while Explorer shows almost double: 192 MBps*8 = 1536 Mbps (I think we can neglet the Send speed = 13.2Mbps even if the Explorer adds it to the receive speed)).

Here's the picture from some other forum that proves the Explorer speed can be correct:

In this case (while sending) the speed in Explorer - 11.4MBps ~= 98.5 in Task Manager, that's why I'm wondering why does the discrepancy between those two readings may be so different for various computers :(
