I am having a machine which can update Windows via WSUS but cannot apply new patch to Office via WSUS.
I found the problem could be using Microsoft Office 2016 x64 C2R version in my machine and it cannot be update via WSUS.
Now I am preparing quotation to buy another version to support the Microsoft Office 2016 x64 bit update via WSUS.
Please help to provide any information that I need to specify (detail version, license type, etc.) so that I won't buy a wrong version again. I am open for ideas.
Volume License installations of Office 2016, 2019, and 2022 can be updated by WSUS but I believe only with MECM/SCCM, not with WSUS alone (I can't 100% remember if MECM/SCCM is a requirement, but on generating a new config on config.office.com, it only lists MECM for updates).

The WSUS server / service is controlled by my corporate support team. And they said no MECM/SCCM is used.
They further provide the following information:
They have put the latest security update for office 2016 (KB5002178) 32-Bit and 64-Bit version on WSUS.
Some other client machines using the VL 32-bit version ("Office 16, Office16StandardVL_KMS_Client edition") can get the patch from WSUS.
So I guess only the WSUS is enough for Client PC to get the patch.
For my client machine which is the currently the "Office16ProPlusMSDNR_Retail edition" cannot get the patch from WSUS.
I am sure the network is working because the Windows update patch can be download from WSUS.
After Windows update download completed in my machine, it can be installed and showed in Windows update history. But the office is not updated/patched.
Is there an Office 2016 x64 bit license called "Office16ProPlusMSDNR_VL edition" (just guess) so that I can install in my machine to make the patch from WSUS work?
So it looks like it's just WSUS alone. You need the volume license version - which would have to be downloaded from the VLSC or the Microsoft Business Center.
I found the following link for the VLSC of Office 2016:

It said it has to be activated by KMS host or Active Directory.
But my machines is a standalone Windows 10 version 1607 which possibly cannot connect to corporate KMS server due to security/firewall rule setting.
What are the possible ways for the VLSC Office 2016 license activation ?
If you're on Windows 10, 1607, you are no longer in support, and you're on a system that has had no patches since 2018 and you should upgrade immediately to 21H2 (you can go straight there).
Volume licenses must be activated by KMS, Active Directory, or MAK keys found in your VLSC or Microsoft Business Center.
My client PC should be "Version 1607 .... Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB" when I type command "winver", and it should be within support period according to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-2016-ltsb
Is my Windows version support the Office 2016 x64 bit VLSC version, so as the update via WSUS?
Enterprise LTSB is different - it is in support.
Microsoft's premise - if you need Office on the system, you should not use LTSB/LTSC versions of Windows. That being said, it works.
WSUS will support the VL version - install Office from VL media, WSUS will handle updates.

Why the CSP account / domain is required for Office 2016? It seems that it is a 365 version instead.
Also, for the VL version I found in https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49164
It said only activated by KMS / Active Directory. But I would expect the activation by Product Key. Please help.

Including Office 2016 and above, Microsoft has disabled updating Retail versions via WSUS.
