Ms Word Hyperlinks change on files stored on SharePoint 2019

Dear all

We are using SharePoint 2019 with Document Id feature enabled. We noticed that hyperlinks embedded in Ms Word documents (Insert Hyperlink) pointing to SharePoint folders (Select Folder/Copy Link) occasionally change and point to other folders. More interestingly the displayed text "Text to display" remains the same and only the actual link (Address) changes to new location. Please note that the aforementioned Ms Word document and the linked folders are on the same SharePoint site and that we are currently using Ms Word 2016.

Is this a known feature or documented bug?

    Hi @Nikolaos Nikolaou ,

    Your mention of "will change and point to a different folder, the displayed text remains the same, only the actual link address changes to the new location" is referring to the fact that the link points directly to another folder, but the displayed file is what it should have pointed to are the files in the folder?(The text to be displayed should not be in the newly pointed folder, right?)

    Has this happened to you with hyperlinks in other documents? Or is it just this hyperlink?
    And has your folder been renamed and happens to have the same name as another folder on the site? This is a point where I make a guess.
    Since I can't reproduce your issue, you might be able to share the hyperlink of the folder again to replace the old one and see if this happens again.

    Please find below more information about the issue I mentioned:

    1. Indeed, the link points to another folder but the Displayed link hasn't changed and shows the correct initial folder.
    2. This behavior has been observed on other files as well.
    3. As far as I know the folder that the link points hasn't been renamed or moved.
