Hi everybody, Sorry if this question has been asked already but I'm having know luck finding a solution. I'm trying to to open Microsoft Edge on a laptop at work but I keep getting a dialogue box that says "Your admin needs to sign in. To use Profile 1 please sign in or switch to a different account" (screenshot) I don't want to use my personal Microsoft credentials because the laptop and browser will be used by around 20 other guys in our workshop. Is it possible to open Edge without an initial login?

Hi @James Murnane ,

It looks like your organization has enabled a policy called Browser sign-in settings and set it to Force, which means you will have to sign in to a profile to use the browser. Please contact your organization's IT to know more and find a solution to this (such as sign in with a work account).

Thank you for your prompt reply, I do have admin level access to this laptop, so would I be able to change the setting myself?

Or is it related to using the browser on our companies wifi? Will I be able to use Edge if I login to a different wifi hotspot?

Hi @James Murnane ,

If you have the admin-level permission, you can do it yourself for sure. Please follow these steps:

Go to the →Microsoft Edge Enterprise landing page← to download the Microsoft Edge policy templates file and extract the contents.

Add the administrative template to your device. You can see the tutorial →here←.

In your Group Policy Editor (normally you can open it by running gpedit.msc), configure the →Browser sign-in settings← policy. You can find it in Administrative Templates/Microsoft Edge/Browser sign-in settings. From my perspective, it may have nothing to do with your companies' Wi-Fi. It is based on how your organization configures the policy.

Correct, but I have seen it randomly just NOT accepting the login.

And the error message is beyond idiotic!

Admin needs to sing in to where/what?
