Can SharePoint migration tool migrate from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2019?

Hi all,

Please just checking if the SharePoint migration tool can be used to migrate from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2019. When asked to enter the destination URL, can one simply enter a SharePoint 2019 URL or does it only accept Sharepoint online/O365?

    Hi @Nanfa Kumswa

    The SharePoint Migration tool is only for On-Prem SharePoint/local data to SharePoint online.

    Migration from On-Prem to On-Prem aren't supported.

    You should be able to do a in-place upgrade to 2019 but you will need to go to first 2016 first to keep the databases compatible.

    Thank you for your post in our forum.

    Migrating from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2019 is not supported. To migrate from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2019 we must first migrate to a temporary SharePoint 2016 farm and then migrate to SharePoint 2019.
