Hi All,

I was recently setting up a computer for a client, and when activating during the initial windows setup I've managed to scratch off some of letters/number where the product key is printed. Is there any way to recover this? Or was this just a very expensive mistake..

If someone wants to take a guess as to what these characters are let me know!

    Hi @Anonymous

If you managed to use the product key you could use cmd prompt (as Administrator):

    wmic path softwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey

If you have scratched the key off to the point that it is unreadable, you might be out of luck and need to purchase a new product key.

Edit: If you recently purchased the device from a vendor, you may be able to contact them to see if that information is on file.

    Hello WilliamDavies,

Unfortunately, there only way would be to contact the entity that provided that licensing, in order to retrieve from documented records of purchase if available, or in other cases they may use the barcodes as serial numbers for the license in order to retrieve the Key.
