Domain already registered?

I am attempting to set up Azure Active directory. I am attempting to verify our domain (checkablemedical.com, which we own via GoDaddy), but when we enter the information into GoDaddy and I attempt to verify in Azure I get an error and I get a message indicating that "This domain has been previously configured on NETORGFT4845159.onmicrosoft.com using an existing Azure AD or Office 365. To verify this domain name, you will first need to remove the domain name from the existing directory."

I have no idea who that would be or why they would be using our domain. I have no access to this and plugging that address into azure indicates that account does not even exist. How can I fix this so our domain is available so I can set up Azure AD? Thanks.

    Hi @Chris Franklin

As stated in the article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/error-message-when-you-try-to-verify-a-domain-in-office-365-74f4d326-adad-a106-814a-7b3a237f6ceb

If you previously verified the domain in Office 365, you must first remove the domain from its current location. The domain can only exist in one location in Office 365.

If you don't know what Office 365 account is currently using the custom domain or if you don't have control over the Office 365 account that's currently using the custom domain, contact Office 365 Support.

Try contacting Office 365 Support at https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/home/contact

    Hi @Chris Franklin ,

To add to the previous answer, the error message means that the custom domain you are trying to use is already added as a verified domain in the XXXXX.onmicrosoft.com tenant. If you don't have valid credentials to sign into XXXXX.onmicrosoft.com tenant, there is no way for you to remove the custom domain from that Azure AD tenant.

If you don't have access to the email address, the only option that you have is to open a free support ticket with the billing team to get the custom domain from the existing tenant i.e., XXXXX.onmicrosoft.com. In order for support to remove the custom domain, you will be required to provide some evidence of your ownership of the custom domain. Support may also reach out to the owner of XXXXX.onmicrosoft.com to ensure that they don't own the custom domain.
