Hello, I've been trying to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10 but it keeps failing. I tried multiple times. This is using the media creation tool.
Tried MediaCreationTool20H2 and MediaCreationTool21H1. I'm getting the Dreaded "Windows 10 installation has failed"
message.
I've already tried troubleshooting the "failed" error by:
- unplugged any external devices
- Windows all updates installed for 8.1
- Uninstalled all third party software (including anti virus) and Malwarebytes
- checked that Windows 8.1 is correctly activated
- Tried installing by telling it not to keep any files or settings
- ensured enough disk space is available (35GB)
- raun sfc /scannow two times and it completes without issues.
- Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth (Completed without issues)
- Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth (Completed without issues)
- ran "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" >> This is failing with the following error.

After this failed I followed this guide but it did not help:
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-corrupt-windows-image-error-0x800f0906
I even tried rebooting to command prompt with networking in safemode to see if that would help run the dism /online
/cleanup-image /restorehealth but it keeps failing with Error: 0x800f081f.
I'm running out of ideas and I was not sure how to follow this guide to fix the /restorehealth error
https://www.minitool.com/data-recovery/dism-failed-errors-windows.html
DISM failed 0x8000ffff, 0x800f0954, 0x800f0950, 0x800f0907, 0x800f081f (The source files could not be found. Use the
“Source” option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature.): if you see error
codes like this, you should use the install.wim file to start a DISM scan (after copying it from your Windows 10
ISO).
When I put in my Windows 10 recover USB I'm not seeing any file named install.wim. I do have an older ISO image I can mount to try to find the install.wim file.
Here's some various errors in my dism.log if I start from the bottom and search up for "error" or Failed.

I did create a USB media to install Windows 10 and was thinking of trying that next. However, I'm concerned if I go that route it won't find my Windows 8 License and allow me to Activate Windows 10. I was able to get the exact same Asus Laptop upgraded back in April of 2020 from 8.1 to 10 without issues (I have two of them). Also, they are both
Dual boot but I tried changing the boot loader in BIOS and that didn't help either. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.
I can attached my dism.log but I would need to make it smaller than 3MB since it's currently 5.8MB.
