Dear Team,

We are migrating the SharePoint portal from 2013 to 2016 by using the content database method.

We are upgrading the service application from 2013 to 2016 by using the below article. we are stuck at the secure store service application. we have upgraded successfully but are unable to see the target application.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/upgrade-and-update/upgrade-service-applications-to-sharepoint-server-2016#see-also

1. unable to obtain master key
I don't have the OLD keys, I tried with the farm account and server passphrase key, but it didn't work.

2. Exception of type 'Microsoft.Office.SecureStoreService.Server.KeyManagement.InvalidMasterKeyException' was thrown
after multiple attempts, I tried to generate the key from the ribbon, and I got the above error.

What is the exact key??
Is it a passphrase key, which is a server security key to add the servers to the farm?
or can we find it from any code level or any web.config or is there any way to generate the key (i hope it will not impact the farm).

I hope you under my query :)

Thank you in advance.

    Hi @Rahul Gollapalli ,

According to my research ,please try to rebuild the Secure Store Service Application and generate a new master key.

You can refer to the similar issue in this document: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/52430.sharepoint-2016-exception-of-type-microsoft-office-securestoreservice-server-keymanagement-invalidmasterkeyexception-was-thrown.aspx

Hope it can help you. Thanks for your understanding.
