Azure migration from Godaddy - admin issues

Hello,

I was (trying) to move my hosting from GoDaddy to Azure but seemed to have messed up as it appears I don't have admin rights on my account, even though the same login is listed as the subscription owner. The actual domain name (www.binky.com) is listed as Verified and Federated, but can't be transferred to Primary. This means I can't add users, change settings etc. etc.

Please help!!!

I did the following:

Set up domain in GoDaddy (e.g. www.binky.com)
Created Azure account with this domain name (alex@candy .com)
Created a DNS Zone in Azure
Changed the nameservers to those listed on the DNS settings in Azure
Confirmed that the resource is now hosted in Azure.
NB: The domain is still listed on GoDaddy

Cheers,

Alex

    Hi @Alexander Dobres ,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for reaching out & I hope you are doing well.
I understand that you are not able to make the domain as primary to your tenant.

    • I am not sure why you are creating a DNS Zone in Azure.
    • This is not necessary for adding the domain to the tenant.
    • In the reference documents, Add your custom domain and Make a domain Primary, I do not see the requirement to create a DNS Zone in Azure
    • If you are creating the DNS Zone for a different purpose, please do let me know.
    • Can you please try making the domain primary from a "Global Administrator" account?

P.S : I am not understanding what you mean by the domain is still listed under GoDaddy.

    • Azure only supports hosting of a domain
    • This means, the domain will always belong to the registrar.
    • Azure only lets you manage the records

Please feel free to let me know if any of my understanding is incorrect, or you have any follow-up queries, I shall try to address them.

    Cheers,
    Kapil

Even after transferring your hosting from Godaddy to Azure, Godaddy will still be your domain name provider. Azure will not take that role.

With godaddy you register that your domain can be found using the Azure DNS servers. This is fine and how it should work.
