WIndows 11 22H2 Author MMC cannot save conole when you remove action pane

Authoring any MMC under Windows 11 22H2 that has an action pane. If I keep the action pane I can save it to another location. If I remove action pane I get 'MMC cannot save the console'.

How do I author an MMC with a removed action pane in 'view'?

Just seeing this on a brand new Win 11 22H2 Build 22621.2715 using these steps

Run mmc.exe,

Add Performance Monitor as a Snap-In

Expand Performance (local)->Monitoring Tools->Performance Monitor

File->Save As ... save works.

Do View->Customize..., don't make any changes and hit OK

File->Save and get the error dialog "MMC cannot save the console"

Since I always use View->Customize... to remove the extraneous UI elements that don't contribute to monitoring what my system is doing this and effectively makes mmc.exe useless for my purposes. Works fine on Windows 10 and a Win 11 22H2 system that was upgraded from Windows 10 and is using the .msc file originally saved on the original Windows 10 install.

before you disable the action pane set it all up as you like then dont disable the action pane just save the msc somewhere . then open the resulting .msc file with any editor like notepad++ Change where it says ActionsPaneVisible="true" to ActionsPaneVisible="false" save file where you prefer note: save it as a .msc file not as a .txt or .xml etc worth a shot at least

Interesting - a solution from 2010 on disabling the action pane. I havent tried it.
Do not know if it works. But you get points since the fix is from 2010.

This is NOT an appropriate answer to the issue. While it's good to know how to disable the Action pane via an alternate method, it does not address the issue with the snapin no longer being able to be saved, should someone open the View -> Customize window (where the OP has done in attempt to remove the Action pane that way).

I'm have the same issue but, the console won't save just by my opening the View -> Customize dialogue. If I open that, then close it, without changing anything (or changing something), the console won't save. 22h2 version for me as well.

Thank you for this! I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what I am doing that keeps corrupting my custom snap-in, preventing me from saving. I now know what NOT to do to prevent corruption going forward.
