Hi, I posted my question in Microsoft Community and was told to post it here.

My laptop ran out of battery and shut down while it was in sleep mode.

When I turned it back on, the error 0xc0000001 appeared, with the following options :

  • Retry
  • Access Recovery environment
  • Access Startup settings
  • Access UEFI microprogram

Retrying or going to the Startup settings ends up to the same error

Trying to go to Recovery environment ends up to a similar screen, with error 0xc000000f, same options and same results.

I tried to use a usb bootable flash drive using Windows Media Creation Tool and Rufus. In both cases it seems to boot on the flash drive, but I only have the Windows 10 logo and spinning dots.

I tried to wait for the Install Windows page to pop up, but nothing happened after 8 hours...
I tried it on another computer and got the correct Install Windows page in few seconds, so the bootable flash drive does work properly.

Also, if it can be of any help, it's a dual-boot Windows 10 / Ubuntu. I can still use Ubuntu and mount the Windows partition so I still have some access to my computer. I was able to save all the important files so even a solution to reset everything would be fine !

If someone could help me fix that, I would really appreciate it !

[Solved] Edit :

I managed to solve my issue by deleting all the partitions of my disk using a Ubuntu Live usb. Not only the Ubuntu partition but every single partitions. After that, the flash drive with Windows worked and I could install Windows 10 properly.

Find a flash drive that you can format (> or = 8 GB).

On a working computer create a bootable Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (MCT) (Windows 10 iso).

This time use the Microsoft website download without Rufus and see if makes any difference.

Options to reinstall Windows include both a custom and a clean install.

For a custom install Windows will backup files to Windows.old and install a fresh version of Windows.

For a clean install the computer user must manually backup important files.

For both methods drivers and applications need to be reinstalled.

These are links for custom install and how to restore important files from Windows.old:
