Hello All,
I woke up the other morning to a bunch of bounced emails in my inbox (and tonnes of weird, like ones in my sent box(mail delivery failure type emails), and alot of weird videos in my search and watch history, and also some in my watch later playlist. These videos were about software program cracks, crypto, etc..
On top of this, my steam account was totally hacked; the email and password was changed.
The countermeasures were follows:

  • changing Google password
  • scanning each windows computer I own with windows defender (with the plugin windows configurator)
  • scanning all of my computers with tronscript
  • lodging an account recovery ticket with steam
  • analysing processes and programs with autorun

Rest assured, ALL of my computers were seemingly malware free, and to top it off when google account manager flagged some critically suspicious activity a day later, and 2FA has been turned off at the time i changed the password (I definitely have it on on both Steam and Google). At this time, there has been no weird entries to login activity.
Sorry for the long winded post, but I have absolutely no idea how i got hacked (and how the hacker bypassed 2FA), and whether or not I'm still vulnerable.

You probably got hacked by someone with a cracking tool and they got full access to your email.

This has happened to me before just be calm and check the recent sign in activity of your email to check if there are any unauthorized devices logged I. Your account and change all your passwords.

    Hi Brandon,

Thanks for your reply. I'm still confused how they bypassed 2FA and compromised other programs/accounts like Steam. Could they have cracked my account without malware having to be present on my devices (i.e. it was just bad luck??)

    Kind regards
