Unable to upgrade machine to 21H2 Installation job encountered some failures. Job Result = 0x80240022.

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade Windows 10 1909 to 21H2 but it keep failing for few minutes which I try to upgrade.

I try following
Stop Update service and delete "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" folder

Microsoft Security | Intune | Configuration Manager | Updates
Microsoft Security | Intune | Configuration Manager | Other

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

    1,The error 0x80072EE2 means "The operation timed out". And the 0x80070003 means "The system cannot find the path specified".

    Please make sure the that connectivity between clients and servers is fine and there is no firewall blocking the traffic.

    2,Can we manually download and install Windows 10 21H2? How about using an upgrade task sequence?

    Hi @lalajee ,

    The %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder is automatically maintained by the WUAgent. On the off-chance that the Datastore and the Download folder get de-synchronized, it may be necessary one-time-only to delete any content in the Download folder that is over 10 days old. Before you delete the folder, you had better to save this folder using another name.

    Your trying is a good idea. Whether the problem resolved after you tried?

    Hi,

    1,What version of MECM and Windows ADK you are using? To support Windows 10 21H2 as client, we must use MECM version 2107 or later. Please refer to below guide:
    New Upgrade to Windows 10 21H2 using SCCM | ConfigMgr

    2.Check C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\setupact.log to see if there is any further information.

    3,Please help try to remove any anti-virus or any other incompatible software, then try upgrading again. The first easy troubleshooting step we can do at this point is to launch setup.exe from the hidden C:\$WINDOWS.~BT directory. After going through the first screens, the setup will warn us about those incompatible apps. If we don't want to run the setup.exe, we can refer to the hidden C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\CompatData[date-time].xml. We’ll have a couple of Compatdata.xml files, usually, the most recent one will contain the information you need. Please check if there is a faulty application and give setup the instruction to stop.

    4.Follow below steps to delete cached files, then try upgrading again:
    a. Empty the SCCM Cache
    b. Delete the content of C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder
    c. Delete the C:\$WINDOWS.~BT folder (hidden)
    d. Initiate a Software Update Deployment Evaluation Cycle and Software Update Scan Cycle
    e. Wait a couple of minute for the scan to complete and retry the deployment
