Our software has two parts.

  1. Runtime server
  2. Application

Runtime server is installed in virtual machine located on Microsoft azure cloud in windows 10 OS.
User application is downloaded from google/ apple/windows play store and installed in smartphone or tablet.

To start the application, user needs to communicate with runtime server through IP address or host url and port number over wifi or 4G connectivity. Currently, we have established communication between server and application on open port 80. We understand that this is not secured connection. Hence we want to secure connection between server and application through https port 443 by installing SSL certificate in VM and CA root certificate in mobile/tablet. I have heard that free SSL certificate is available in Azure provided by DigiCert. Can I get CA root certificate for application to be installed in mobile.

    Hi,

Yes there is free SSL Certificate, however there are some limitations, or you can use thrid party SSL Certificates for your app: configure-ssl-certificate

The free certificate comes with the following limitations:

    Doesn't support wildcard certificates.
Doesn't support usage as a client certificate by using certificate thumbprint, which is planned for deprecation and removal.
    Doesn't support private DNS.
    Isn't exportable.
Isn't supported in an App Service Environment (ASE).
Only supports alphanumeric characters, dashes (-), and periods (.).
