i haven't been using visual studio visual basic.net for a while and i notice that now when i start the program, it creates the file folder on my E (data) Drive whereas, before it was in the Documents folder under libraries.
please advise how i may change it back?

thank you for your reponse but, unfortunately the 2017 version is quite different from the 2010 version. however, my project locations are the same as those shown; with the exceptions that User Name is replaced by my user name and Visual Studio 2017 is replaced by Visual Studio 2010.
there has to be some other problem in play.

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
Can you confirm what kind of projects/files were saved in Documents directory before? And do you use any extensions which may save some files(for example log files) in other directories?
Please try to reset VS settings and see if it works(Tools > Import and Export Settings… > Reset all settings > No, just reset settings, overwriting my current settings).

thank you for your response, but even resetting the settings did not work.
the files that are in the Visual Studio 2010 file are Backup Files and StartPages and both are empty unless i have opened a project in which case there is an empty file with the project's name in Backup Files.

Do you still remember what has changed, like updating Windows OS, setting some rules on your machine and installing any antivirus?
The path is set by default, do those empty folders still exist in the Documents folder? If they don't exist, please try to create an empty folder(Name it like Visual Studio 2010. Use its previous name if you remember the folder name) in Documents folder and remove(backup them if necessary) the folders in E drive, then restart VS 2010 and test again. If they exist, does directly removing the folders in E drive work?

i double click on 'Computer', then right click on 'Documents' under Libraries. then go to 'Properties', which shows the location of the file.
i have changed this back to C:\Users\Public, but it has not solved the problem.

Thank you for sharing me above information.
Can you confirm that the previous path is C:\Users\Public? On my side, the default location is C:\Users\<username>\Documents. Besides, have you tried to create an empty folder in that location like what I mentioned above, and does it work?
I’m not 100% sure if any Windows Registry has been changed cause this behavior. Since resetting VS settings doesn’t work, perhaps reinstalling VS 2010 will work, or you may add Windows related tags to see if any experts who know Windows OS well can share some good suggestions.
