Hello,

After installing the update KB5018418 on October 12, the custom icons I use for my shared folders on my Synology NAS are no longer working.

I have already contacted Synology technical support and here's what to know :

  • the problem occurred after installing the cumulative updates KB5018418 (Windows 11),
  • the configuration in desktop.ini of an absolute path of a .ico present on C: displays correctly the custom icon (for example : IconResource=C:\Users\Tony\Desktop\test.ico,0),
  • the absolute path of a .ico present on Z: (the NAS share) does not display the custom icon (for example : IconResource=Z:\dossier\icone.ico,0),
  • a relative path does not display the custom icon (for example: IconResource=.\icone.ico,0),
  • changing the attributes of the desktop.ini and icone.ico files to "system" and "hidden" before or after copying to the NAS does not display the custom icon,
  • a system icon (for example: IconResource=C:\Windows\System32\SHELL32.dll) is displayed correctly,
  • the custom icons with a relative path are displayed correctly when I access the shared folders from another PC that has not installed the KB5018418 update,
  • if I uninstall the KB5018418 update, icons are back, but Windows automaticaly re-install the update the next day.

Hoping to find help, I thank you for the read.

Sincerely,

Tony.
