Company Portal tries installing already installed profile on iOS

Hi,

I'm trying to enroll a new device that has not been previously enrolled before. The device is set up without Apple Business Manager, and just through Intune and Apple Configurator.

When I try to set up Company Portal after going through the setup assistant (and downloading apps), it asks me to the management profile, even though it's already installed.

The management profile that Company Portal wants to install isn't identical to the one that I installed through Apple Configurator. The one that Company Portal wants to install has fewer certificates than the one already installed, and generally seems to have fewer features. The device is enrolled with user affinity.

When I remove the original profile that was there when the device was enrolled, I am able to install the profile from Company Portal. But when I do that, a lot of the features from the previous profile disappear, such as Wi-Fi Profile, Home Screen Layour profile - and I'm worried that I'll also be unable to manage it as a supervised device in intune (because I've previously tried just enrolling it through the company portal app, but I don't have as many restriction options if I do it like this, compared to when I enroll it with Apple Configurator)

The device shows up in the Intune device list just fine, and as compliant. I'm not really sure what to do from here.

Here's a list of the troubleshooting steps I've tried:

  • Wiping the device through configurator
  • Wiping the device through Finder
  • Creating a new Apple Configurator profile in Intune
  • Attempting this on multiple devices

I found this thread on reddit that seemed to experience the same issue, but the comments did not lead me to a solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/Intune/comments/wdlr5y/company_portal_keeps_wanting_to_download_already/

Thanks in advance!
