Sharepoint Communication Site as main site

Hi,

I am brand new to the creating of a SharePoint Communication Site and we have an existing website hosted within SharePoint Online (https://companyname.sharepoint.com) that is just a normal site, so our Marketing Team wants to remodel the site completely to a proper communication site.

but I wanted to know, how would you POC a Communication site first and then later replace the main site with it?

as I see when you create a new communication site it just lists it under the "https://companyname.sharepoint.com/sites/POC"
and I also don't want any users to access the POC while it is being created, so I am assuming it will inherit the permissions of the main site.

    Hi @IT Guy

    1) You can replace your root classic site with a modern one as seen in this article:

    2) When you create the "POC" which I assume means Proof of Concept, it will have its own unique permissions set up for the site. Therefore, only you and who you have added to Administrators will have access to the site until you have shared it or added more members.

    1.Based on your description, I understand you want to set a new communication site collection as SharePoint home page.

    (1) Go to Settings in the SharePoint admin center and sign in with an account that has admin permissions for your organization.

    (2) Select Home site.

    (3) Paste the URL of the communication site that you want to become the home site.

    (4) Select Save.

    2.When the POC communication site collection being created, it has its own permission and does not inherit the permissions of the original home site collection. You could add owners and members in the POC communication site collection.
