Hello All,

Thanks in advance.

We are using SCOM 2019 UR4. We need to monitor the HP storage devices Primera, 3PAR.
HPE Storage Management Pack for System Center 5.4.

The storage devices communication is based on SNMPv3 Traps and no Community strings.

TWO MS. One MS is part of Network resource pool. One designated Collection server. SNMP service and SNMP trap service is started in collection server the port 162 is used by SNMP on collection server.

The storage team created SNMPv3 account in the device and provided super user permission and SMI-S credentials. Added SCOM collection server as SNMP Trap destination in storage devices.
The same credential is used to discover the HP primera and 3PAR device in the configuration tab (SCOM console).

No blocking for ports 8080 and 443.

We created the SNMPv3 account in SCOM and added to the respective run as profile for HP 3PAR.

Unfortunately no components are discovered can anyone help on this.

Thanks & Reagrds,
ANU

    HI Anu,

I am pretty sure now that you have to oipen a case with HPE, as I did back in the time. This functionality is part of the HPE MP, only they can tell why this is happening, trace it and solve it.
Interessting enough "Forbidden" is always associated with permissions or failure in the client-server communication.
I am sure HPE will be aware of this and will know how to troubleshoot this.

    Regards,
    Stoyan

    Hi Anu,

if you do SNMP traps, there will be no components, which are discovered.
Intrecepting SNMP traps over the collection server means that every time a trap is sent by the storage unit, the collection server should get it and display it in a view.
I have done the HP 3PAR SCOM integration and I know that sometime it can be tricky.

    Did you enable the rule:
Processing Events/Alerts for HPE Primera and 3PAR Storage
    https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=sd00001271en_us&docLocale=en_US&page=GUID-D7147C7F-2016-0901-0848-0000000006F9.html

Please also read the troubleshooting section of the MP, it will help you understand the challenge better. Go to the same site, click on the PDF icon on the top right corner and download the guide. In the guide, please go over the Troubleshooting section (Page 192). Then go and fin this secrtion and complete the steps from it:

    Hello @SChalakov

Thanks for the help. We have successfully discovered the HP storage devices in SCOM.

I am not able to see any alerts generated in SCOM console.

In the configuration manager Trace Tool on the following location <Programfiles\HPE\HPE storage MP\HPESTORAGEDevice.log> i can see the below error.

HPEnterpriseStorageDIscovery 8332:1 Error CloseWSAPISessionsKey HPE Storage Device Discovery Error: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.

can any one help me on this.

    Thanks,
    Anu

    Hi Anu,

This means that the account you are entering in the configuratiuon dashboard does not have permissions on the storage:

    258282-untitled.png

Please note this important part from the guide:

It is recommended to use the superuser account while discovering HPE Primera and 3PAR Storage, to view all the CPGs, Virtual Volumes, and Virtual Machines in the diagram view.
Credentials are not required to discover the HPE 3PAR StoreServ File Controller. However, the SMI-S credentials are required for the HPE Primera and 3PAR Storage and HPE MSA storage.
For the HPE Nimble storage, management group IP and credentials are required.
For the HPE StoreVirtual storage devices, cluster credentials are required. For the HPE StoreVirtual 3200 devices or later, one of the controller IP addresses and the controller credentials are required.
To discover an HPE Primera and 3PAR Storage successfully, ensure Port 8080 is open on both the OpsMgr as well as the Collection Point Server.

    Hope I could help!
    Regards,
    Stoyan

    Hello @SChalakov .

Only HPE Primera and 3PAR Storage MP is imported

I am using the super account with all the permissions. As i said i am able to discover most of the details. Dashboard is displaying the details properly, Diagram view displaying details. state view is working correctly.

SCOM is able to create sessions keys but unable to close delete them afterwards.

    Regards,
    ANU
