Migration Tools for SharePoint 2019 to O365

I wonder why SharePoint 2019 on-prem migration to SharePoint Online (365) is still not supported by SPMT. Does anyone know if and when such support is planned by SPMT.
Also, from what I found on the internet there are just a few rather very expensive tools like ShareGate, AvePoint or eventually Metalogix which support 2019 --> 365 yet. Does anybody know any lightweight tool which can handle some simple libraries migration from 2019 to Online by preserving some metadata like creator, eventually history etc? We do not plan to fully migrate our SP2019 yet to Online but a few smaller sites, therefore I'd like to avoid paying a big amount for the above mentioned tools.
I am also a bit concerned that there is very little information in the web abut 2019 migration, they all cover 2010, 2013, 2016 but there's almost no documentation about SharePoint 2019.

Or at least, can anyone recommend any simple to handle commercial tool for this task? As i said, we do not need to migrate any workflows or so, just lists, libraries and wikipages. But we'd like to keep some meta-data information, download&upload (talking about libraries and documents) is not an option).

Any input is highly appreciated

kind regards,
Dieter

    Hello there!

You can check the Microsoft RoadMap to search and follow over time the next implementations: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=

As of now it is possible to check the following:

For now, SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT) supports migration to SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams from:

    1. SharePoint Server 2010, 2013, and 2016
    2. SharePoint Foundation 2010 and 2013
    3. Network and local file shares

Per my knowledge and research, there’s no Microsoft article about the migration from 2019 to Online. As Microsoft keeps working on its tools and services to extend the support for its products, we believe the SPMT will cover SharePoint Server 2019 migration scenarios one day but for now, about in June 2023.

If you only want to migrate contents of lists, libraries and wiki pages, manual migration is the only way. For reference, Information about manual migration of SharePoint Online content.

If you want to migrate contents and metadata of lists, libraries and wiki pages, you need to use third-party software such as ShareGate to migrate.

This says June 2023. Do you know if it is going to be rollout this month ? Not sure if this is accurate.

As for the SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT), Microsoft has not yet announced plans to support SharePoint 2019 migration. However, they have said that they are working on it and that they hope to have support available in the near future.

In the meantime, there are a few lightweight tools that you can use to migrate SharePoint 2019 to SharePoint Online. One option is to use the PowerShell Migration Toolkit. This toolkit is free to use, and it can be used to migrate lists, libraries, and wiki pages. However, it does not support the migration of workflows or other metadata.

Another option is to use a third-party migration tool. There are a number of these tools available, and they typically offer a more comprehensive set of features than the PowerShell Migration Toolkit. However, they can also be more expensive.

Here are a few third-party migration tools that you may want to consider:

    • Quest: it offers migration tools for SharePoint, such as "On Demand Migration for SharePoint.
    • Gs Richcopy 360: it is a lightweight tool to migrate from SharePoint 2019 to Office 365.

    hope this helps
