Questions about using visual studio 2012 on windows 10

Question

Windows 8.1 will not be supported in 2023. I want to ask whether visual studio 2012 can continue to be used after upgrading my Windows system from 8.1 to 10?
If I continue to use it? What potential safety hazards may exist?
If visual studio 2012 cannot be used, what is the reason?

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

You can continue using or installing VS 2012 on Windows 10. You may also install related Visual Studio 2012 Update for feature additions and bug fixes, like Visual Studio 2012 Update 5.

Since Update 5 is till under support currently, if any safety hazards found it will be fixed. But it is not that easy to know what the safety hazards will appear in the future(end of support).

So you can continue to use VS 2012 after it is end of support, but you may not find the related VS 2012 resource to download and install, you may encounter some compatibility issues if some other dependent platform/system/components are updated, and some unknown safety risks may appear…

Microsoft planning to end the support of Visual Studio 2012 on Jan 2023. I suggest you move to another version.
