In the Volume License Service Center and the partner center there are two downloads available for Windows server 2019

Files OS Size FormatHelp Download SHA1 Hash
Windows Server 2019 (Standard Core/Datacenter Core) (updated April 2020) 64 Bit English 64 bit 5128 MB ISO Download Copy SHA1 Hash
Windows Server 2019 (Standard Core/Datacenter Core) (updated Aug 2020) 64 Bit English 64 bit 5186 MB ISO Download Copy SHA1 Hash

The one that says updated April 2020 release downloads this file:

SW_DVD9_Win_Server_STD_CORE_2019_1909.4_64Bit_English_DC_STD_MLF_X22-29333.iso

It installs version 1809 (OS Build 17763.1158) it should install version 1909 (as it says in the ISO filename)

The one that says updated Aug 2020 downloads:

SW_DVD9_Win_Server_STD_CORE_2019_1809.6_64Bit_English_DC_STD_MLF_X22-34397.iso

It installs version 1809 (OS Build 17763.1397) it should install version 2004 [why does the filename say 1809????]

According to this page:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started/windows-server-release-info

1909 should be Windows Server, version 1909 (Semi-Annual Channel) (Datacenter Core, Standard Core) 1909 18363.418.191007-0143

and version 2004 doesn't exist, even though there is install media for it.

How do you actually install Windows Server 2019 1909 and 2004?

If there's some discrepancy in the volume center listing you may need to contact them about it. I see them both in my VS subscription.
Windows Server, version 1909 and 2004 are both a semi-annual channel releases.

    Hi,
Based on my search, basically if the title is only Windows Server it is the SAC release, If the title contains a year then it is the LTSC release and may or may not reflect the same version number of the year of release
Windows Server e.g. Windows Server version 1909: This is the SAC release, mainstream support for 18 months, extended support out to 30 months.
Windows Server 20xx e.g. Windows Server 2019 (actually released in 2018) is LTSC, its version number is 1809.
Then I consider Microsoft will change the naming scheme again.
Where to obtain Semi-Annual Channel releases
Semi-Annual Channel releases should be installed as a clean installation.
    • Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC): Volume-licensed customers with Software Assurance can obtain this release by going to the Volume Licensing Service Center and clicking Sign In. Then click Downloads and Keys and search for this release.
    • Semi-Annual Channel releases are also available in Microsoft Azure.
    • Visual Studio Subscriptions: Visual Studio Subscribers can obtain Semi-Annual Channel releases by downloading them from the Visual Studio Subscriber download page. If you are not already a subscriber, go to Visual Studio Subscriptions to sign up, and then visit the Visual Studio Subscriber download page as above. Releases obtained through Visual Studio Subscriptions are for development and testing only.
Hope this helps and please help to accept as Answer if the response is useful.
    Best Regards,
    Carl
