I know the agent is said to consume relatively small share of the VM performance such as CPU, memory and disk. However, can this be quatified or estimated based on the different types of the data collection and the OS.

It is true that AMA has a smaller resource footprint that MMA. It also has many other benefits.

However, Resource utilization is difficult to quantify because data collection scenarios can be very different. We are working to provide "benchmark like" results for a few different data collection scenarios that could be used in rough estimation of usage by customers. The page will be published in the near future. Until then I do not want to quote anything other than what we have publicly documented.

    Hi there,

There is one thing which is publicly available. EPS by using AMA is much better than EPS by using MMA
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/agents/azure-monitor-agent-migration#benefits

Plus, there is a bunch of limitations for Data Collection Rules (mostly used by AMA)

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/service-limits#data-collection-rules

Overall, AMA is a most performant agent in Azure Monitor
