Decide between Self Hosted Vs Auto Resolve IR

Hi All,
What are the Pro's and Con's between the self hosted (SHIR) Vs Auto Resolve. Which one is faster? Also I have some more questions.

  1. If I do not use any On-Premise Data Source can I still use SHIR ?
  2. Using SHIR will increase the speed of the pipelines?
    3)Which one is expensive and which one is more flexible?
  3. Do we need a separate VM for SHIR, If yes should it be within network or on cloud.

Please advice or point to some docs. Appreciate all the help.

    Hey,
    Please find below the responses :

    1. yes, you can use shir even for cloud sources or cloud databases hosted within a vnet
    2. it depends on the configuration of your server on which the ir is installed
    3. in case if shir, there is additional aspect of overhead maintenance of the server, patches and configs whereas in case of Azure ir, msft takes care of everything.
    4. ideally it is suggested to install the ir on a seperate server within the vnet but close to the source.
