SCCM - is it possible to have different boot images for different site locations?

Hi,

Currently I am using the default boot images and so far it's been working well, I really don't want to mess with it.

My company has acquired a new site and we've been working on integrating the new Plant to our network. A new DP has been set up for the new Plant. I will have to re-image all of the existing machines at the new plant. I want to create a custom boot image that will have certain drivers injected into it and distribute it only to this new plant, while still using the default boot images for the rest of my operations.

Is this possible?

Thank you

You can create a custom boot image and distribute it to the intended DP with the option 'Deploy this boot image from the pxe enabled distribution point' enabled. Then refer it in your imaging TS. Don't copy the default boot images to this DP.

I want to create a custom boot image that will have certain drivers injected into it and distribute it only to this new plant, while still using the default boot images for the rest of my operations.

Ultimately, there is very little value in doing this and this will just cause you additional overhead and pain in the future by adding unnecessary complexity for a variety of reasons including TS duplication.

The easiest and best path is to simply inject the additional drivers into your common boot image. Keep in mind you should only ever inject NIC drivers (and possibly storage drivers) into your boot images and then only if you 100% need them (as proven through actual testing). We strongly advise against blindly injecting drivers including using driver packs from vendors as these unnecessarily bloat boot images without adding value or capabilities.

    Hi,

Yes, it is possible. Agree with @Rahul Jindal [MVP] . You can customize a boot image with network or storage drivers and distribute it only to your new DP in the new site. Also remember to create new boundaries/boundary groups for the new site and associate the new DP with the new boundary groups. For more information about manage boot image, please refer to:
    Customize a boot image

Thanks for your time. Have a nice day!

    Best regards,
    Simon
