As per my understanding, different locations are under different domains in your case, right? If yes, you have to build trust relationship between 2 domains. Make sure the domain name, FQDN and IP address can be pinged mutually and DNS server has been activated on your two servers in advance. What's more, SharePoint Server is optimized to perform well over wide-area network (WAN) connections. For most customers, a centralized environment is the recommended architecture for serving a world-wide user base.
