Windows Server 2022 - Windows Update error - STATUS_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING - Microsoft-Windows-Slb-Mux-Package

Question

Hello Team,

I have problems to push last Cumulative Updates Server Operating System KB5018421 (2022-10) and KB5019081 (2022-11) for my Windows Servers 2022.

• HPE SimpliVity HCI.
• 1 x Windows Server 2022 with WSUS.
• ~10 x Windows Servers 2022 are fresh install (< 6 months).
• Cumulative servers updates from WSUS don't work.
• Cumulative .NET framework updates from WSUS are OK.
• Office updates from WSUS are OK.
• Windows Defender updates from WSUS are OK.
• Security Update Microsoft server operating system are OK (last 2022-08).
• All my Windows Servers 2022 servers run fine except for installing these Cumulative Updates Server Operating System.

I checked logs.

WSUS side

Échec de l’installation : Windows n’a pas pu installer la mise à jour suivante en précisant l’erreur 0x8024200b : 2022-11 Mise à jour cumulative pour Microsoft server operating system version 21H2 de x64 avec systèmes basés dessus (KB5019081)

I tried :

• Update manually with DISM.
• Clean Software Distribution
• SFC scan
• DISM Scanhealth / Restorehealth

Microsoft-Windows-Slb-Mux-Package is related to "Software Load Balancer (SLB) for SDN".
Azure Stack HCI.

Is it a problem related with my HPE SimpliVity HCI ?

Another Microsoft employee @ariaupdated reached out and said it was an update for the Azure Stack HCI, which is updated once a year and applies to virtual machines in the Azure Cloud. This update is not available for on-premises servers. I pointed out that this was confusing – and she now wants to have this described more clearly by the people responsible …

No idea what's going on

• I have this new category in WSUS "Microsoft Server Operating System-22H2". Beginning of my problems ?
• Azure Stack HCI SLB ?
• STATUS_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING "Microsoft-Windows-Slb-Mux-Package"

I just want to apply Windows Cumulative Updates Server Operating System 21H2 for my Windows Servers 2022 21H2.
