Setting up a usb drive on asus router

I am running Win11

I have setup a usb drive on an asus router (rt-ax86u)

I can get to the usb drive "Network> RT-AX86U-9E08> Staging" from explorer (screen capture attached)

Accessing "Staging" Win asks for network credentials

I've entered every possible correct credentials

Win11 gives error every time

In advanced settings I've turned off "password protect" for all networks (screen capture attached)

still get error

Any suggestions?

So here are results from the testing I've done:

SMB access from Win11 Desktop to Asus USB drive working with reliability

SMB access from MAC Pro Laptop to Asus USB drive working with reliability

Before installing the Asus router I had been using a NetGear router, SMB access
from iPhone to shared drive on Win11 worked with reliability through NetGear router

SMB access from iPhone to Asus USB drive consistently fails with a generic error message (e.g., "attribute missing",
the kind of "catch all" error response developers often code at the end of an IF-THEN-ELSE chain)

I posted/chatted with Microsoft, Asus & Apple - no one has a clear solution. I did some internet research and
found that this is a common error - in Reddit there were some posts about changing some configuration attributes - but
thats just too risky

So it looks to me like the Asus router is most likely the root cause of the failure, probably needs
some modification to its protocol handler logic to accept SMB traffic from iOS.

So for now, I've gone back to using iPhone to MAC AirDrop to do file transfers
