Question

Azure linux VM agent status not ready

Hello,

As the question states, I am seeing one of our Linux VM agent is not running and at the same time not able to SSH into the VM.

Most of the articles here recommend to repair/reinstall walinuxagent. However, I am not able to login to the VM nor able to update the VM from console.

Any suggestions?

I need more details to troubleshoot your issue:

-share details about the specific Azure VM you are using (Azure marketplace image, etc.)
-difficulties you are seeing with updating the VM from the console
-issues you are seeing with logging into the VM
-Can you stop and start the VM from the portal and then try the troubleshooting steps here : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/azure/virtual-machines/linux-azure-guest-agent#troubleshoot-a-not-ready-status
-If nothing helps, try manually installing the agent as described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/extensions/agent-linux#installation

This is a Linux VM spawned using CentOS-LVM:7-LVM:7.9.2022020700 from the image gallery. When I try to operations => update the VM, it initiates scan to find updates but never comes back with any recommendations to upgrade.

From the same operations => run command, I tried running commands like ifconfig, top, nslookup, ping and walinuxagent status, I never saw response.

tried ssh from the cli to the machine, connection time's out.

I created a vm repair of the VM and the cloned VM does not have any problem to fix and merger the repaired OD disk to the actual VM.

I have also checked the links you shared but those will not apply as I am not able to SSH, Bastion or RDP into the machine.

The exception states, the Azure VM agent is not in ready state and suggests to troubleshoot. When it scans, does not come up with any recommendations.

I was able to fix the issue.

Did a Hard restart from the GRUB console. before that backed up the OS disk and also had a az vm create repair which cloned the vm.

The issue was with the walinuxagent died which also cause not ssh'in into the session.

During the Hard restart from GRUB, I selected an old kernel version, which I believe, it reverted the updates and able bring the agent back online.
