    Hi @Chris yeung ,

And you follow the guidance on this link to reinstall SQL : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/sql-server/install/uninstall-an-existing-instance-of-sql-server-setup?view=sql-server-ver15&tabs=Windows10

I found a number of these:

    (01) 2022-12-05 14:54:00 Slp: Unable to mark feature SQL_Engine_Core_Inst as failed due to exception
    (01) 2022-12-05 14:54:00 Slp: Cannot find registry key 'SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL13.SQLEXPRESS_AWP\ConfigurationState'.

I will have to admit that I don't know exactly what this implies. Maybe doing a total cleanup and try again as Panda suggests is a good idea. If the issue persists, I would consider using Process Monitor to see what is going on, but that's certainly tedious.

    What anti-virus are you running?

I note now that you are trying to install a slipstream version for SQL 2016 SP2. When I read the installation log, I get the impression that it is the Service Pack part that has problems.

    You could try one of:

      1. Install SQL 2016 Express SP3, which is at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=103447.
    1. Install a new version of SQL Server Express.

In any case, you should not run SQL 2016 SP2, as it is entirely out of date.
