Windows 11 / "Other user" missing from login screen after removing from domain

Hi

I have a bunch of Windows 11 PCs that are connected to a company domain.

If, for whatever reason, I remove the PC from the domain and add it to a workgroup, I have to restart it.

After the restart I wind up at the login screen with the previously logged-in domain user (which I used to remove the PC from the domain) as default. I of course can no longer log in with the domain user, as the PC is no longer a member of the domain.

And here comes the problem: The option on the bottom-left-hand-corner of the login screen "Other user" is not there.

I can not login with the previous domain account, but I have no method of switching to a local account, as the option "Other user" is not there. In effect, I can no longer log in to the PC.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Daisy

Thanks for your help but as I mentioned in my post, I cannot log on with a local administrator.

The default account (i.e. the last logged in account and the one that is shown on the logon screen) is a domain account, with which I can no longer log in as the PC is no longer a member of the domain.

The problem is, is that the option "other user", which is usually at the bottom left hand corner of the log on screen, is missing.

Nowhere can I enter a different user name and I only have one field available, in which to enter the password of the last logged on user, which as I said is a domain account with which I can't login!

    Hello BaumannChristoph-5861,

Thank you for posting in our Q&A forum.

Can you logon the PC using the local Administrator account? If so, you can logon the PC using local Administrator account and check the

Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ System\ Logon\Hide entry points for Fast User Switching

If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, the Switch User interface is accessible to the user.

Hope the information above is helpful.

    Hi Daisy

As the PC is not setup for remote access, I cannot login remotely.

But I can enter SafeMode. However, when I do, I end up the same login screen as seen above: the last logged in user as default and no "other user" option.

    Any ideas?
