Microsoft Windows Server 2016 - Version 1607 - OS Build 14393.5501

I am trying to see the contents of an external NAS (Network Attached Storage) hard drive on my Windows Server 2016 operating system, but the drive is not showing up in This PC. Only the internal hard drive is showing up. The NAS drive is operating as a backup for the network.

I've heard mapping the drive might work, but I am unsure as to how to do that considering that when trying to map the drive , it asks for a folder. Why is it asking for a folder when I want to map the external hard drive?

I've also read that certain features may have to be added through Server Manager's Roles and Features, but I am not sure exactly what to enable. Resources online are not clear and/or complete.

A couple of option might be SMB direct

    or iSCSI

the NAS manufacturer may also have recommendations.

So I was able to find some information about the NAS drive through Windows Server Backup within the Tools tab of Server Manager. It gives me details about scheduled backups and how much space is being used. Everything is operating as it should.

I guess seeing more details about the backup - such as, what actual files/information is being stored - is not necessary? Am I to have faith that each backup will consist of content that is invaluable to the organization?

I'm going to try and find out more info from the manufacture (Western Digital), as you mentioned, and also try to get answers from whoever set up this network.
