Delete custom Domain for Azure Active Directory

Question

I am the owner of the domain mewes.xyz
I would like to use this as a custom domain for my Azure AD. When I try to verify it, I get the message "This domain has been previously configured on mewesc.onmicrosoft.com using an existing Azure AD or Office 365."

As far as I know, this used to be a test tenant that has long since ceased to exist. Any credentials for the tenant are no longer available.

How can I delete the custom domain from the old tenant?

I had a similar issue and Microsoft data protection team has helped to resolve the issue. I suggest you raise a support request with the following fields. The team has to verify the domain ownership and takes a decision to delete it from the backend
