scannow isn't working any more - I've used it countless times in the past but now if I type sfc/scannow and press enter, nothing happens. I've also tried the dSIM thing and have the same problem (ie it doesn;tstart doing anything once i've hit enter) help, please!

There needs to be a space between sfc and the switch /scannow
    sfc /scannow

    Hi,

    What's your system version?

DISM command line is only available for Windows 8 or upper system version, make sure you system meets it's requirement.
Make sure you run sfc /scannow or DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command as administrator.
If there is not reaction after run those command, we could boot computer into safe mode or clean boot environment to check the issue again.

    Bests,
