Sharepoint / OneDrive Permissions Removal Sync Issue

I have a Sharepoint with a number of document libraries, with access controlled to those libraries by some custom groups (the inherited site permissions for each library have been broken so that only the custom groups should have access.

I've removed one group from having access to one of the libraries. When they view SharePoint through a browser the library has disappeared from view in their left hand navigation pane - all good. However they also have the OneDrive application on their Mac which pulls synced folders down to their Finder. These users can still see that library and its documents in the Finder on their mac, even though their access has been removed and its not visible to them on SharePoint. They can still open the documents, but any changes they make aren't synced back to the SharePoint library. So SharePoint knows the permissions have gone, but OneDrive doesn't appear to be removing the library and files from the OneDrive app/Finder.

The user's aren't admin users for our MS account so aren't inheriting any permissions from an admin role.

Any ideas why this may be the case?

    Hi @Cleveland & Co
You said that "They can still open the documents, but any changes they make aren't synced back to the SharePoint library", this means these files have been downloaded to the users' PC, they are not online anymore so the changes will not be synced to SharePoint.

You could use On-Demand function to see whether the files could be seen after the user permission has been removed.

OneDrive Files On-Demand helps you access all your files in OneDrive without having to download all of them and use storage space on your device. When you turn on Files On-Demand, you’ll see all your files in Mac Finder and get new information about each file. New files created online or on another device appear as online-only files, which don’t take up space on your device. When you’re connected to the internet, you’ll be able to use online-only files like every other file on your device.
