Visual Studio 2022 another problem with class View

Ok so I open VS. Then I open an XAML file. I go to an ItemsSource and copy the property. Then I go to Class View. Well the search is not available.

This is reproducable. And why is the class view not available all the time. The open source file should have nothing to do with this.

MS please do some QA on this poor version of VS. I have used this product for decades and this version gets worse with every update.

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. Do you mean searching properties(in .xaml file) in VS Class View window? If so, as far as I know, it’s not possible. I’m not sure what you want, but will "Find and Replace" feature meet your requirement? Press Ctrl+F > input ItemsSource > select Current block/Current document/All open documents/Current project/Entire solution > click Find Next button to search.

No I meant search for a property in a class. At the start of VS when there is just an XAML file you cannot search the classes. This should be a function not depending on the source file open.

The open file in the editor should make no difference to whether the Class View search is available. Classes exist and should be searchable.

This happens even if there are two source files open when VS is opened and the source file in focus is XAML.

I can only suggest that this "feature" was brought to us by the same person who decided that "Open With" is not worth showing in File Explorer. I have no idea why MS is so bent on making their products not all that usable.

And this is not a suggestion it is a "Get it together"

I think I know what you want, you want the Class View search still to be available when one single file or several files are opened(without opening the project/solution).

Actually Class View is shown as part of Solution Explorer(as a separate window), and it displays the elements of an application. A project is needed to be opened in VS to use it currently(even if you open a folder contains many files, it doesn’t work).

Anyway I have reported this, and here’s the link. You can follow up that thread and thank you very much for helping us make VS better.

Thank you for passing this on. The actual problem is when there is only an XAML file open and not a code behind file. If there is a code behind file the Class View works. I have never checked if I open Visual Studio without an open solution.

Thanks for your reply. May I double confirm this:

You mean create and open a new project in Visual Studio(like Maui), and just double-clicking to open the .xaml file, not the .xaml.cs file. Then open Class View to try to search the class, but the Class View grayed out and doesn’t support to search? If so, may I ask several additional questions to confirm further:

Could you please let me know the project type that you are using(or this issue appears on many type of the projects?)?

Could you please let me know the detailed VS 2022 version that you are using, for example version 17.4.4?

The issue appears on a modified project or on a newly created project?
