bookmark tag ignored in combination with language tag

I am using bookmark tags to get the timings of certain events, speech SDK 1.24.2. The input might look like this:
das vertriebsteam in frankreich hat die usp der neuen produktgeneration nicht verstanden? <bookmark mark="timestamp"/> das vertriebstraining wurde auf englisch gehalten? <break time="100ms"/><bookmark mark="end_of_slide"/>
This works as expected and delivers the required timings.
However, as soon as I add language tags to improve the pronounciation, the bookmarks seem to be ignored and no timings are provided:
das vertriebsteam in frankreich hat die <lang xml:lang="en-us">usp</lang> der neuen produktgeneration nicht verstanden? <bookmark mark="timestamp"/> das vertriebstraining wurde auf englisch gehalten?
<break time="100ms"/><bookmark mark="end_of_slide"/>
I tried this with de-DE-ConradNeural and de-DE-KatjaNeural, which support the language tag. Region is west-Europe
