Hi,

I am trying to POC for our virtual smart card application using Azure Virtual Desktop. For this I used Azure trial subscription and added a valid custom domain to Azure. During the Image customization, I used a Win 10 Multi session OS with enterprise Office apps. The process asked for confirmation if I bear a valid license for using this OS. Not sure if it is part of the free trial or not.

For some reason I am unable to launch my application in desktop session app published through Azure Virtual Desktop, however it runs fine on the VM created using same OS image.

My current Win OS image is

Error I am getting when trying to launch the application is "Smart Card resource Manager is not running".

I checked that Smart Card service is running (also restarting made no change).

You don't need RDS licenses, if you are using Azure Virtual Desktop, with a client OS - the users just need to have the appropriate licenses (https://azure.microsoft.com/pricing/details/virtual-desktop/?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5004796)

For the Smart Card error, do you need it? It might be worth disabling the service- or making sure Smart Card authentication is turned off in the Azure Virtual Desktop host pool (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-virtual-desktop/new-feature-smart-card-authentication-for-windows-virtual/m-p/2323226).

Take a look at this: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-smart-card-error/5399955b-c393-4737-b401-668196cbaed1
