How to evaluate SQL Server 2022 Standard Edition?

Hello SQL Server Forum,

We have a requirement to evaluate SQL Server 2022 Standard Edition. The 180-day evaluation edition provided by Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/download-sql-server-2022 shows only Evaluation, Developer and Express 276985-sql-server-2022-edition-selection-option-while-try.jpg .

When we select Evaluation and install - it has the complete features of Enterprise Edition.

Please assist.

Hi @Anand Franklin

Your understanding and experience is correct.
There is (never was throughout the last years) an option to evaluate the Standard Edition.

If it has to be an evaluation of the Standard Edition with only features of a Std Ed. the best option is to deploy a VM in Azure and use a PayAsYouGo-Subscription... as long as your evaluation needs you can run that machine and you just have to pay for the usage.

Thank you for the solution. Actually, we have application server running on the On-premises environment we want to evaluate SQL Server 2022 Standard Edition against Microsoft .NET based web application in-house development testing server.

Is there any way to test SQL Server 2022 Standard Edition on the On-premises environment using Azure subscription?

SQL Server 2022 comes with Evaluation edition - but it has all the features of Enterprise Edition.

In this forum, which is a technical forum, we can point you to two options:

1) Enterprise Evaluation Edition, if you want to have a free evaluation.
2) Standard Edition with a pay-as-go-subscription, if you want to evaluate Standard Edition specifically.

If you want to evaluate Standard Edition at no cost, the answer from this forum is negative: no, there is no such option.

But you can contact your local Microsoft representative and see if you can make a deal. If your account seems to have potential enough, they may be willing to let you try.

MS does not provide a "standard edition" evaluation version. The evaluation and developer versions are equivalent to "enterprise" edition.

The Community Technology Preview 2.1 release of SQL Server 2022 is available now as a 180-day trial Evaluation Edition with all the features of the Enterprise edition, or users can run the Developer Edition as a 180-day trial in an Azure VM from the marketplace.

Li, SQL 2022 went RTM in middle of November. Please do not refer people to outdated preview versions.
