Macbook Air won't connect to RDP over wifi but will on mobile hotspot

Hi,
I am looking for a little help if at all possible:
I am trying to connect my MacBook to my work PC using Microsoft RDP which goes through a Draytek VPN.
I should start this by saying the same set up on my old Window Laptop did work and can still work now. Using the same settings I can get the VPN connection working fine on my matchbook but it won't connect the RDP.
Strangely though I found another post which said their mobile hotspot works. I tried this, and guess what, I was able to connect and it all worked great.
The issue I have is why will my Windows laptop work fine over WIFI but my MacBook will not?
The is the first Mac I have had so not sure where to start. Is this a common Mac issue or am I missing a simple setting?
