Recent Migration - links lost

we recently migrated from server based file storage, locally saved and backed up, to sharepoint online. however, we now find that links that were embedded in files are not working. they are broken as the file names did not update. for example our accounting team for the monthly close had some spreadsheets that pulled from multiple areas to create a summary. those files all made the migration but the links are broken. we have developed a 'manual' fix, aka going file by file, but we have several years of history. ugh. my assumption is that we're not the first to migrate from servers to sharepoint online so there must be a fix? my sense is that this is a basic question based on reviewing some of the other posts . thanks

    Hi @Hurley, T
Per my research, when you migrate linked files with SharePoint Migration tool, the links in documents won’t be changed as the document links of SharePoint Online will be different from the on-premise links or local files. Hence, the linked data is broken after you use SharePoint Migration Tool, and the Migration tool won’t change and replace with the new links in document.

You could send feedback to Microsoft SharePoint Feedback.

What's more, here is a similar case discussing about replacing the broken links with some third-party tools:
