Hi Team,

I am currently using the latest SharePoint to store Corporate Records (such as Personnel Files) in a secure and limited area in one of my SharePoint Sites that only a few people can access. I want to apply a retention label of 100 years based on the birth date for the folders where i save the individuals personnel files (therefore, each folder would have a different date due to their birth dates). How do i go about doing this?

    Hi @Stokes, Connor

You could find retention policy by going to M365 Admin center > Compliance > Date lifecycle management: Microsoft 365 > Retention Policy

    User's image

Click "New retention policy" and select which SharePoint site you want this policy to apply to in the policy settings

Next step you could custom how long you want to delete the files automatically in the SharePoint sites.

    Hi @Stokes, Connor

I thought of a workaround for you. As you need to remember the file create date in local location after you upload it to SharePoint, you could use SharePoint Migration Tool to achieve it.

Here is a log which records I done a migration On 1/11/2023:

and this is a related report for this migration:

As a result, we could find that the create date is the actual date of the items created in SharePoint On-Premise instead of the date when I migrate them to SharePoint Online(1/11/2023):

And this is the previous list items I migrate from local SharePoint Server:

The example I show in the screenshot is migrating list items from SharePoint On-Premise to SharePoint Online, you could also migrate from File Share to SharePoint Online.
