Unable to use backspace to remove bullet in list in Word (365)

I am unable to use the backspace or enter keys when removing bullets from a list in word. I am in the most current version of word (365).

Here is an example below. In word when trying to remove the final bullet in the list below, I put my cursor between the "O" and bullet and click backspace key - nothing happens.

Alternatively, when I try click Enter key twice, simply creates two more bullets in the list.

My only option currently is to turn off the bullet format in the top menu bar - this is a bit of a pain as I have used the standard removal process with backspace or enter key since using Word.

I have seen a few threads on this same issue without resolution. I have attempted to change settings on and off in Options > Proofing > Auto Correct Options > Format as you Type > Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces option with no luck.

Please help!

Sorry, I do not have the answer to why this is happening. I do have a workaround that will give you more stable bullets, though.

This will be a pain, but you may want to relearn how to do bullets using styles.

You can assign keyboard shortcuts to you styles and these styles can be saved in a template.
